Hemma Tuppy May 15, 2013

Hemma Tuppy was born in 1988 in Vienna and started her piano studies at the age of seven with Alma Sauer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. After she graduated with distinction at the Akademisches Gymnasium Wien, she was accepted to the Piano Diploma Studies of the German pianist Stefan Arnold. In 2013 she received her Concert Diploma with distinction. At Mozarteum Salzburg she did a postgraduate year with Claudius Tanski. Hemma also studied chambermusic with Altenberg Trio at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität. Since 2012 she is additionally studying Liedbegleitung with David Lutz and Markus Hadulla at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and 2013-14 with Wolfram Rieger at HfM Hanns Eisler Berlin.
Hemma Tuppy won several prizes at national and international competitions such as the international piano competition „Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte“ in Usti nad Labem (honour award), the international music competition “Noor Music Young Musicians” in Tallinn, Estonia (2nd prize), the international “Wiener Pianistenwettbewerb” (WPW) in the Bösendörfersaal Vienna (1st prize), the Rudolf Heydner Piano competition 2010 (1st prize) and the International Lied Duo Competition 2014 in St. Petersburg (1st prize).
As the pianist of the Koncz Trio she awarded the “European Music Prize for Youth”. She received a scholarship of the Karajan Foundation Vienna and the prize of the Beethoven Gesellschaft Vienna. After winning the Musica Juventutis audition Hemma gave her debut at Wiener Konzerthaus, in 2003 with the Koncz Trio and in 2006 as a soloist. Despite frequent solo recitals the young pianist has already worked together with orchestras such as the Mexico Symphony Orchestra (Beethovens 1st Piano concerto under Enrique Batiz), University Orchestra of Guanajuato, Niederösterreichische Symphoniker, Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Ensemble Neue Streicher. Hemma has participated in the Danube Festival, the Haydn Festspiele Eisenstadt, the Kultursommer Semmering, the Liszt Festival Raiding (where she performed on the original Erard grand piano) and Festpiele Mecklenburg Vorpommern.
Hemma Tuppy has performed in famous Austrian concert halls (Brucknerhaus Linz, Musikverein Wien, Wiener Konzerthaus) as well as in whole Europe, Mexico, Cuba, India, Japan, Egypt and Russia.
