Alina Mleczko May 20, 2014

She graduated from the Chopin Academy in Warsaw (now the Fryderyk Chopin Music University) where she studied saxophone with David Pituch. She recorded her debut CD during her graduation year. Entitled “Wiatr od Morza”( Sea Breeze), it featured works written specially for her by Paweł Mykietyn, Jacek Grudzień, Maciej Zielinski, Michał Kulenty. Her next CDs Siesta (2003) and Fiesta (2005) received nominations for the ”Fryderyk’’ Awards of the Polish recording industry and won excellent reviews. ”Siesta” was awarded a prize by the “Classica” periodical in France. In October 1996” Saxophone Journal” in the United States ran her profile in an issue devoted to the world’s leading saxophonists.

As a soloist, she has performed with Capella Istropolitana, the National Orchestra of Ukraine, the Danish Radio Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia and numerous Polish symphony orchestras. She has worked with many prominent conductors including Jacek Kaspszyk, Volker Schmidt-Gertenbach, Vlodimir Sirenko, Alexei Didura, Roman Kofman ,Victoria Zhadko, Hermann Breuer, in classical works for saxophone and orchestra (Glazunow, Ibert, Villa-Lobos, Debussy, Piazzolla) as well as contemporary pieces (by Balakauskas, Szymański, Mykietyn, Pstrokonska-Nawratil). She has performed in many European countries and the United States and has taken part in many festivals including the “Warsaw Autumn”, Lutoslawski Forum, ”Musica Polonica Nova”, “Wratislavia Cantans”, the Festival of Latin American Culture and “Two Days &Two Nights” in Odessa.

She has been involved in such special project as Adam Jarzębski-Polish Baroque Music, in which the timbre of period instruments was enriched with the classical sound of soprano saxophone, and “The Other String of the Coin”(her own project blending jazz and classical music, with the pianist Włodek Pawlik).

She also pursues a teaching career as a faculty member of the Fryderyk Chopin State Secondary Music Schools and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

“[a] stylish overview of some of the last century's most important works...Yoshimatu's wonderfully quixotic and exotic Fuzzy Bird Sonata is a gem in the repertory and there's a real sense of identification here between Mleczko and the music, suggesting that yet more is to come from this talented player.”

Gramophone Magazine, 2010

A winning collection of pieces interpreted with flair by the noted performer/pedagog. An unabashedly romantic artist as reflected by her lush and warm tone quality.
