Winner of the Prix Credit Suisse Jeunes Solistes 2013, the young Spanish clarinetist Pablo Barragán made his solo debut at the Lucerne Festival in a recital streamed by the SFR and published in CD by the Credit Suisse Foundation. Recent engagements include his solo debut in recital at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival 2015 or Mozart Concerto KV 622 live recording. The critics define him as an outstanding musician not only for his overwhelming playing, but also for his stage presence, passion, capacity of communication and sensibility.
Pablo has been awarded with other several international prizes, such as the ARD Munich International Competition 2012, 1st Prize Juventudes Musicales de España 2011 as well as the Special Prize of European Music Competitions for Youth 2011 (EMCY).
Since 2007, Pablo Barragán is working with the Maestro Daniel Barenboim, as a member of the West-Eastern-Divan Orchestra, performing and recording under his battom concerts in the best audiences and festivals all over the world. He has collaborated as well in the projects of musical education that the foundation is developing in the Middle East as an invited professor.
Future engagements include his solo debut at the Schloss Elmau Concert Series in January 2016 together with the outstanding pianist Maki Wiederkehr, performances of Mozart Concerto KV 622 with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, his participation at the Krzyzowa Music Festival 2016 or Murten Classics Festival, as well as recitals and chamber music all around Europe with artists such as Trio Rafale or Goldmund Quartett.
His career highlights include as well his debut in Spain with Clemens Schuldt and the Orquesta Radio Televisión Española RTVE in Madrid, his solo concerts with the Sinfonieorchester Basel performing the Nielsen Concerto under Gabriel Feltz and Prokofiev Op 94 under Adrian Pravaba. Worth to mentioning are his recent collaborations with the Bratislava Sinfonietta at the Allegretto Festival, and with the Orquesta Bética de Cámara under the battom of Michael Thomas. Pablo performs recitals at some of the major venues in Spain, such as Palau de la Música Catalana, L’Auditori Barcelona, Auditorio Nacional, Fundación Juan March, Teatro de la Maestranza... and he records for Radio Nacional de España, France Musique, Catclassics, SFR , DECCA, RAI or BBC.
As an artist extremely interested in the chamber music activity, he considers the work with other musicians essential to develop himself and his musical knowledge. Therefore he is very active and frequently invited at venues and festivals such as Davos Festival Young Artist in Concert, Lingotto di Torino, Salzburger Kammermusik Fest, Ciclo Generación Ascendente, Fränkische Musiktagen Alzenau or Sommer Kammermusik Zurichsee.
Pablo is born in Marchena (Seville) in 1987, studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Manuel Castillo with his mentor Antonio Salguero and at the Barenboim-Said Foundation with Matthias Glander. He was a member of the Orquesta Joven de Andalucía under Michael Thomas musical direction, been part of a powerful andalussian generation of musicians, nowadays spreaded around the world. In 2009 he was granted with a scholarship by Fundación Caja Madrid and moved to the city of Basel (Switzerland), to study at the Musik Akademie with the Professor François Benda. He studied chamber music with the Professors Anton Kernjak, Ferenc Rados, Benjamin Engeli, Felix Renggli and Sergio Azzolini, and he has taken masterclasses and advices from renowned clarinetists like Martin Fröst, Reto Bieri, Dimitri Ashkenazy, Piotrek Szymslik or Vicente Alberola. Pablo is currently invited to give mastercourses at Academias WOM, Utrera Suena International Music Course, as well as invited to give several masterclasses in Sevilla, Valencia or Basel.
