About Camille Thomas

Classical

‘Infectiously romantic expression, a full, deep sound, impeccable technique – a genuine personality!’ This is what the press is saying about the performances of the young Franco-Belgian cellist Camille Thomas, who is regarded as one of the most promising young musicians of her generation.

Her many awards – Révélation Classique ADAMI 2010, scholarships from the Fondation Banque Populaire Natixis and Fondation Bleustein-Blanchet pour la Vocation, among others – have already gained her invitations to give recit- als at such prestigious venues as the Salle Gaveau, the Théâtre des Champs- Élysées, the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, and the Berlin Konzerthaus, and to appear as a soloist with orchestras such as Sinfonia Varsovia, the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, the Ensemble orches- tral de la Baule, the Orchestre des solistes français, the United Nations Orches- tra, and Cappella Academica of Berlin. Her performances have been broad- cast on such European radio and television channels as ArteLiveWeb, France 2, France 3, RTBF, Deutsche Welle, Canal9 and France Musique.

Born in Paris in 1988, Camille is currently undertaking advanced studies in Frans Helmerson’s class at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, after work- ing with Marcel Bardon and Philippe Muller in Paris and Stephan Forck in Berlin.
She has won numerous prizes at national and international competitions, including the Seventh Antonio Janigro International Competition, the Yamaha Music Founda- tion of Europe String Competition, the Edmont Baert Competition and the Léopold Bellan Competition. She has also been awarded the Prix Berthier of the AMOPA.

Alongside her activities as a soloist, she has a passion for chamber music. In 2011 and 2012 she was selected to participate in Seiji Ozawa’s International Music Academy Switzerland, and she forms the Trio Saint-Exupéry with the violinist Lorenzo Gatto and the pianist Beatrice Berrut.

Camille is very grateful for the generous support she has received from a number of foundations, including the DAAD, Villa Musica, LiveMusicNow, the Carl Flesch Akademie, and the Sinfonima Stiftung Mannheim.
