Daphna Sadeh Feb 22, 2015

Daphna Sadeh is an Israeli born double bassist and composer now based in the UK.
Sadeh studied classical music at the Manhattan School of Music in New York before joining the Israeli based East West Ensemble with whom she toured extensively while immersing herself in Middle Eastern and Arabic music. She was later the co-leader of the all female group Eve’s Women playing a blend of jazz, klezmer and rock while again touring extensively and internationally.
Following a move to London 2002 saw the release of Sadeh’s first solo album “Out Of Border”. Its success led to the formation of the Voyagers group in 2003.  Both “Walking the Line” (2007) and “Reconciliation” were credited to Daphna Sadeh & The Voyagers, the latter being released on John Zorn’s Tzadik record label.
Daphna Sadeh was commissioned to compose music and record a CD with the Voyagers for “Tzadik”, the record label from New York, of the renowned Jazz musician John Zorn. In addition to that she has received a grant from the Art Council to support the project. Recently Daphna composed a ground breaking composition for Baroque and Klezmer and Middle Eastern music.
Reconciliation – released by Tzadik label in New York:
Everyone of Sadeh's compositions sings. In this passionate, highly accessible record, it's clear that Sadeh has found her voice as a stylish composer and bandleader, with a talent for making the complicated sound extraordinarily simple. Songlines by Lemez Lovas (Reviewed 4 stars)
Bright and accessible, colourful and unfailingly melodic, this is music that should appeal to a wide range of listeners All About Jazz www.allaboutjazz.com By Ian Patterson
The common factor that links Sadeh’s various influences is her unfailing way with a good tune. All eight pieces on “Reconciliation” are highly melodic, from the gentle balladry of “Klil” and “Kadish” to the more upbeat numbers such as the opening “Queen Of Sheba”. The arrangements are consistently excellent with Sadeh stitching the various colours of an unusual instrumental palette together with great care and skill. The result is colourful, multi hued music that is obviously a real labour of love. The Jazz Mann www.thejazzmann.com By Ian Mann

Daphna Sadeh’s recent albums - “Born in Parallel” have been thoroughly convincing fusions of jazz with various musical strands of the Jewish diaspora. “Born in Parallel” is her most ambitious project to date, a four part suite that combines her usual jazz and world music influences with classical and baroque music. The compositions are played by a fourteen piece ensemble conducted by David Murphy that features both jazz/world and baroque musicians. Murphy played a key role in the project and is credited with Sadeh as co-orchestrator.
Sadeh says of “Born in Parallel”
“The album is a personal journey that transcends over centuries of musical history created in different parts of the world. My vision was to create a common ground for these diverse cultural and musical genres, a space for dialogue between languages of music originating from east and west, each one resonating its own heritage and tradition”.
