Dumitru Pocitari has been a violinist since the age of seven. From a long line of musical greats, he takes after his great-grandfather, grandfather, father, and mother, all of whom have played as professional musicians in Moldova, where Dumitru grew up.
A stand-out musician since childhood, Dumitru says that one of the highlights of his young career has been the privilege of performing Sarasate's Navarra for Two Violins and Orchestra under the conductor Vladimir Spivakov and his Moscow Virtuosi in the Kremlin on his 18th birthday.
Dumitru overcame a bout of chicken pox to play for Ilya Konovalov, concertmaster of the Israeli Philharmoic Orchestra, and was soon afterwards accepted into his class at the Buchmann–Mehta School of Music. As a second year student in the Adler–Buchmann Program for Outstanding Foreign Students, Dumitru plays in the School's Symphony Orchestra and has had the opportunity to participate in maserclasses with some of the world's top musicians, including Julian Rachlin, Nikolaj Zneider, Zakhar Bron, and Emanuel Borok. He hopes to play violin professionally once he completes his degree at the School of Music.
