Eliana Pretorian was born in Romania and, after studying choreography, universal languages and physics, she received a singing scholarship to the National Academy of Music in Bucharest.
After winning, in both 1999 and 2000, the Romanian National Singing Competition first prize award, in 2001 she was awarded a full scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London where she worked with Kathleen Livingstone and is now a student of Lillian Watson.
Eliana is kindly supported by the John & Jeremy Sacher Trust.
She was awarded the Graziella Sciutti Prize for the most promising young singer in 2003, in 2004 she received the Concordia Foundation Berthel Prize Award and in 2005 the Sybil Tutton award.
Eliana has performed all over Europe.
In London she has appeared at St. John's, Smith Square under Peter Schrire, Cadogan Hall with the Orchestra of St. John's, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and St. James's, Piccadilly.
In 2005 she was the youngest finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Competition held at Wigmore Hall and won a place at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School at the Royal College of Music.
She was awarded a scholarship by the Georg Solti Bel Canto Academy in Tuscany to study with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa in the summer of 2005 and participated in a Masterclass with Teresa Berganza in April 2006 held at the Purcell Room.
She was also selected to sing in Masterclasses with Nelly Miricioiu, Ileana Cotrubas, Sir Thomas Allen, Patricia MacMahon, Craig Ruttenberg, Wolfgang Holzmeir, Roger Vignoles, Sarah Walker, Richard van Allen and Petra Lang.
In November 2005 she was appreciated by the critics for her performance of Adele in the new college production of "Die Fledermaus" directed by Paul Curran.
Future plans include performances with the Orchestra of St. John's, a tour in Norway , Ravel's "L'enfant et les sortileges" for the Benjamin Britten Opera School in June, a Masterclass with Teresa Berganza in Granada in July and performing the part of Zerlina in "Don Giovanni" for British Youth Opera in September.
