Elia Portabales Rodriguez

 
Elia Portabales was born in Vigo (Galicia, Spain). She began her musical studies in the Conservatory of Vigo with teacher Isabel Abril. Later she studied with professor Thuan Domin in San Vicente del Escorial (Madrid) her studies of Medium Grade, which she finished with the highest marks.She was accepted in the “Escola de Altos Estudios Musicais de Galicia”, where she studied with a scholarship of the “Instituto Galego de Artes escénicas e musicais ". She received lessons from the Principal Viola of the Royal Philharmonic of Santiago de Compostela, Tilmann Kircher.She starts her Bachelor Studies in the High School of Music of Salamanca, with teacher Thuan Domin, but later she moves to San Sebastian (“Musikene” High School of Music of the Basque Country) where she finishes her studies with professor David Quiggle obtaining the highest marks in her Final Recital.Elia Portabales is currently studying the last course of a Master in Performance, with Minor in Orchestra, in the Hochschule für Musik der Stadt Basel. She studies with professor Silvia Simionescu.Portabales has had a large orchestral experience, having played with orchestras and ensembles like ‘Camerata Viguesa’, the “Majadahonda's Youth Orchestra”, the Youth National Orchestra of Spain (J.O.N.D.E), Basel Sinfonietta, Caja Duero Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra of Musikene (principal viola), Symphonic Orchestra of Basque Country, Philharmonic of Santiago de Compostela, Orchestra Presjovem (Principal Viola), ‘Ensemble of Contemporary Music’ of the Balearic Islands, Youth National Orchestra of the Netherlands, World Youth Orchestra, Chamber Academy Basel, Neues Orchester Basel, Verum Symphony Orchestra, and Kammerorchester Amici dell'Arte (Principal viola). She is touring Israel with the Chamber Academy Basel on Summer 2013.She has worked with conductors like George Pehlivanian, Christopher Hogwood, David Etheve, Vasily Petrenko, Fabio Biondi, Gilbert Varga, Miguel Romea, Ros Marbà, José de Eusebio, James Ross, Gonçal Comellas, Rubén Gimeno, Pietro Rizzo, Ricardo Fricha, Enrique Garcia Asensio, Jose Luis Temes, Maximino Zumalave, Gloria Isabel Ramos, Jose Luis Estellés, Pablo González, José Serebrier , Luzt Köler, Krzysztof Penderecki, Josep Vicent, Simón Bernardini, David LeClair, Heinz Holliger, Brian Dean, Peter Eötövos.
Portabales has played with soloists like Jose Perianes, Mariana Todorova, Asier Polo, Damian Martinez, Lorenz Nasturika, Leticia Muñoz, Marta Zabaleta, Jose Luis Estellés, Carole Farley, Pilar Jurado and in International Festivals like “Young Euro Classic Festival” of Berlin (Germany), “Chester Summer Festival” (England), in the “International Youth Festival of Aberdeen” (Scotland), “Quinzena Musical” (San Sebastián, Spain, as chamber music player), Festival of Contemporary Music”(Alicante, Spain), “Season of Autumn Concerts” (Zaragoza, Spain), “Cycle of Contemporary Music” (Malaga, Spain) and the Lucerne Festival 2012 (Switzerland).
Elia has received masterclasses from musicians like Tilmann Kircher,Thuan Domin, David Quiggle, Ashan Pillai, NatashaTchitch, Alejandro Garrido, Gérard Caussé, Emile Cantor, Silvia Simionescu, Andoni Mercero, Karsten Dobers, Alberto Rosado, Jose Luis Estellés, Rainer Schmidt, Sergio Azzolini, Tobías Schabenberger, Anton Kernjak, László Gyimesi, Felix Renggli, Sarah O'Brian, or Heinz Holliger.
