Eru Matsumoto, a 22-year-old Japanese cellist, has been charming audiences around the world since age 6. Already an experienced soloist, Eru's performances have taken her to major cities including Vienna, Tokyo, Taipei, Aspen, Los Angeles, and New York City. She has been a featured performer in many concerts at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado as well as the “Juilliard in Aiken” Festival in South Carolina where she was well-received with daily standing ovations. As an avid chamber musician and principal cellist with several orchestras, Eru has performed in such celebrated venues as Walt Disney Concert Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Eru constantly demonstrates her multifaceted talent as she has given an improvised performance at the Consulate of India as well as collaborated with major pop artists in Japan and USA. She has performed on Japanese television on several occasions and took part in an HBO project as a young prodigy at age 12. In addition to television, Eru has played live from the Albany Public Radio Station and on 1320 Warl Talk Radio. In 2012, Eru performed at the Metropolitan Museum, solo, and at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall as a new member of the Solisti Ensemble. Most recently, Eru performed at Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall as the first prize winner of the New York Concerti Sinfonietta International Concerto Competition.
At age 16, Eru had been accepted to the Juilliard School under the tutelage of the late David Soyer, the legendary cellist from the Guarneri string quartet. She is continuing her studies at Juilliard with Bonnie Hampton and Timothy Eddy. Prior to attending the Juilliard School, Eru studied with the former LA Philharmonic principal cellist, Andrew Shulman and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music professor, Yehuda Hanani. While under their guidance, Eru has received numerous awards and honors. As for master classes, Eru has taken from world-renowned teachers including Arto Noras.
Eru has always taken an active role in musical society. She performed the U.S. premier of Eric Tanguy's Sonata for Violin and Cello, which the illustrious composer himself attended from France; and is always in demand to perform innovative music including George Crumb’s Sonata for Solo Cello. Eru is currently involved in multiple recording projects which are already planning CD releases and concert tours.
