Felipe Lamoglia is a Grammy Award-winner Artist, Saxophonist, composer and arranger. Born on 1 January of 1972 he was educated in Cuba, he started to play saxophone at the age of 8 years old at the Conservatory of Arts in HOLGUIN, with Alejandro Granado and Humberto Pino, he also studied during the middle School in the city of Camaguey, were he studied with Roberto Benitez and Alfred Thompson. in the year of 1989 Felipe went to the Superior Institute of Art (ISA) in Habana, where he studied classical music with Miguel Villafruela. By the age of 18, he performed several gigs with Cuba’s popular band, NG La Banda. In 1992 he moved to Brazil, where he lived for seven years and absorbed the country’s musical and spiritual wealth, playing with great artists such as Raul de Souza, Edesel Gomez, Cuca Teixeira, and others. He also played with trombonist Bocato, recording two albums and participating in the Montreux Jazz Festival on 1999. This same year Felipe relocated to the United States, where he immediately began performing with locals artist including few engages with the Band of the late Cuban idol Celia Cruz. In 2001 Felipe began playing regularly with Arturo Sandoval’s Band, performing all over the world and recording different albums such as Trumpet Evolution, Rumba Palace" and two DVD releases: Live at the Blue Note NYC and Live at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. Felipe also contributed as arranger, composer and co-producer for Arturo Sandoval's Grammy-winning album Rumba Palace, released in 2008 by Telarc Records. Around 2004 Felipe joined Gonzalo Rubalcaba & The New Cuban Quartet recording his Grammy nominated album, "Paseo" (Blue Note Records), also traveling with Gonzalo around Canada, Brazil, Europe and USA, Performing at Dizzy’s Coca Cola club in NYC, Catalina Grills L.A. In 2006 Mr Lamoglia arranged and played on Ignacio Berroa’s debut album Codes, also released by Blue Note and nominated for a Grammy as well. Throughout the years he continued to develop his solo work releasing the first CD “DImensions” in 2007. Recorded in Brazil featuring Hiovanni Hidalgo and Ignacio Berroa, Cuca Teixeira, Pepe Cisneros. The album incorporated Felipe’s Afro-Cuban roots with a blend of Brazilian music and straight-ahead jazz. In 2009 he recorded with the talented Eldar Djangirov on his album “Virtue” released by Sony Music, participating of several concerts at Blue Note Club and Clearwater Jazz Festival. Along the years Felipe Lamoglia has shared the stage with musical giants such as Herbie Hancock, Conrad Herwick, Edsel Gomez, John Patituchi, Joe Lovano, Ed Simon, Davis Sanchez, Miguel Zenon, Horacio Hernandez “El Negro, Hiovani Hidalgo, Michael Brecker, Wynton Marsalis, Eldar Dganjirov, Dafnis Prieto, Ignacio Berroa and many others, participating in major Jazz Festivals in United States and Europe, including JVC, Playboy, Newport, Hennieken Jazz, Red Sea, and Jazz clubs such as Blue Note, Birland, Iridium, Jazz Standard, Yoshi's, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Zinc Bar and more. In January of 2013 Felipe performed at the Guzman Center for the Performing Arts at The University Of Miami, a show called "In celebration of Afro-Cuban Culture" , Together with The Frost School Jazz Orchestra and directed by Dante Luciani he played an original material composed for a Big Band Orchestra. That same year he participated as special guest at Manguinhos Jazz Festivals in Victoria Espirito Santos, and Amazonas Jazz Festival, both celebrated in Brazil, Also teaching and offering masterclasses at the Souza Lima conservatorie in Sao Paulo. Felipe have been playing for more than 5 years with Mr. Dafnis Prieto Sextet, performing around USA and Europe, in NYC they recently played fourth consecutive nights at Jazz Standard Club, also recording the newest material from Dafnis. Since 2010 Felipe have been playing with his own Quintet at the most relevant jazz clubs in Miami, like The popular Van Dyke Cafe, Le Chat Noir also performing recently in NYC’s Zinc Bar. In April 31/2014 Felipe traveled with his Quintet to Haiti International Jazz Day, also sharing the stage with Mr Paquito D' Rivera .
