Giulia Barba’s debut album The Angry St.Bernard is the result of 4 years at Conservatorium Van Amsterdam, where the young Italian artist obtained a Bachelor Degree majoring in Jazz Baritone Saxophone and Bass Clarinet. The album features Indonesian pianist Sri Hanuraga (Java Jazz Festival) and Turkish singer Sanem Kalfa (winner Montreux Jazz Festival). The rest of the band: trumpetist Gidon Nunes Vaz (NL), saxophonist Christian Ferlaino (IT), bassist Luca Dalpozzo (IT) and drummer Joan Terol Amigó (E).
A month after the release, the album has been rewarded with 5 stars by Dutch newspaper Het Parool, with the review written by Jan Jasper Tamboer. American journalist Mark Corroto for All About Jazz wrote “She delivers a sculpted narrative on "Ballad" that could be mistaken for the legendary bari player Pepper Adams.”
