Ilia Ilytch Laporev was born in Ghent in 1990. He began playing the cello at the age of nine, studying with the Belgian cellist Hans Mannes, and later studied with Hans-Ludwig Becker and Jan Sciffer. He studied for 2 years in the Secondary School For Arts in the class of Pieter Stas. Currently he is continuing his studies with his father, Ilia Y. Laporev (senior), at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, private with his old professor, Hans Mannes(pupil of Maurice Gendron and Pierre Fournier), and with Vladimir Perlin, in Minsk. Ilia has participated in master classes with leading cellists such as Professor Frans Helmerson, Professor Heinrich Schiff, Professor Clemens Hagen(Hagen Quartet) and Professor Vladimir Perlin and with the organisation “Musica Mundi” where he was active in ensembles and teached by Leonid Kerbel, Vladimir Perlin, Pavel Gililov,… Ilia plays regularly with great pianists such as Polina Leschenko, Geert Callaert, Philip Martens, Jan Heynderickx,…
Ilia has received numerous awards at several Belgian national and international competitions for young musicians, such as “Jong Tenuto, Jonge Solisten Aan Zee”,...In 2002 Ilia did radio and CD-recordings with other Prizewinners of the “Jong-Tenuto” competition. In 2005 he won the first prize at the international cello competition at Sint Pieters-Woluwe (Brussels). In 2004 he was chosen by YoTaM, a Flemish foundation which supports young talented musicians both musically and with scholarships. In March 2006 he was chosen as only Belgian musical artist for the semi-finals in the International Eurovision Competition for young musicians, held in Vienna. In June 2006 he worked together with people from the VRT,an Belgian Broadcast, to build a documentary about Ilia self, and in September was it sended out over all Belgium,on Canvas, an National Belgian Channel.
Ilia Laporev has performed in all over Belgium and is a popular guest on Belgian famous halls like “De Bijloke”, “Flagey”,”La Monnaie”,… and in other countries such as The Netherlands, Belarus, Austria,… Ilia performed celloconcertos with several Belgian and Dutch Symphonic orchestras including the Flemish Radio Orchestra. Recent concert appearances have included a recital in Minsk in the Philarmonic Chamber Music Hall in 2006.
