Spanish flute player with a classical background, her musical interests led her to Rotterdam (Netherlands) to improve her musical skills. There she found an amazing environment full of great musicians that made her to be interested in other musical styles. This situation, together with the yearning of her country, made her rediscover and learn to love the music of their roots, Flamenco.

Her Master Artistic Research has been focused on the search for greater musical expressiveness through the study of flamenco and the development of a richer personal style in which classical and flamenco come together and complement each other.


Besides her classical experience, during the last years she has received masterclasses from such an important flamenco artists as David Peña Dorantes, Diego Amador, Diego del Morao, Diego Carrasco or musicologist Faustino Núñez.

Nowadays she is part of the band "Flamenco Verkeerd", based in the Netherlands and the current project of Abdon Alcaraz "Pianeando por Levante".

About Irene Gabarron

Classical World Music

Irene Gabarron was born in Murcia (south of Spain). She began playing flute eight years old in the music school of her village. She finished her career in Spain, with Ana M. Alcaraz and Juan Fco Cayuelas Grao as teachers, at the age of 23. After that, searching to further improve her playing she went to Holland. She found in Rotterdam one of the best environments to develop herself, obtaining the Bachelor and Master of Music (Flute and Piccolo) in its Conservatory (CODARTS).

She has been student of the excelent teachers Vincent Cortvrint (piccolo in the “Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest”), Jo Hagen, Herman Van Kogelenberg and Juliette Hurel (all of them soloists in the “Rotterdam Philarmonic Orkest”) and she has received masterclasses from Emily Beynon, William Bennet and Vicent Prats, among others.

In Holland she has collaborated with prestigious orchestras as Rotterdam Philarmonic Orkest, Laurens Bach Orkest and Rotterdam Ensemble... and in Spain she has belonged to the Orquesta Sinfónica de Jumilla (Murcia) and she often collaborates with the Orquestra Simfònica Ciutat d'Elx (Valencia).

As chamber music player Irene has a long trajectory with different groups receiving first and third price in the IV and II edition of the National Chamber Music Competition “Francisco Salzillo”. Now she is inmersed in her present group “Scherzando Trio” with clarinet and piano and “Matahari Duo” with Amelia Santoso as pianist.

Currently she is developing and enriching her style through the flamenco music, being part of the band “Flamenco Verkeerd”, resident in Holland, and collaborating in many other projects both in Holland and Spain.
