About Katharina Meldre (Ekaterina Ivanova-Martynova)

Born in 1999 in Moscow, Katharina Meldre started playing cello at the age of four at the E.Svetlanov Music School by studying with Ekaterina Polivanova. Afterwards she continued her music education with Associated Professor Of Moscow Conservatory, cellist and pedagogue Olga Galochkina at the S.Taneev Music School in Moscow. Since 2017 Katharina has been pursuing her Bachelor of Music Degree as a full-tuition scholarship recipient at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

During the years of studies Katharina was mentored as a chamber musician and cellist by Annie Fullard, Mari Sato, Mark Kosower, Richard Weiss and took part in masterclasses with Alexei Sarkissov, Peter Salaff, Danjulo Ishizaka. She also participated in several competitions and festivals, there are among them: V "New Names of Moscow" Festival (2008), XI "Open Europe" competition (I prize winner, 2012), XIII International Television Competition "The Nutcracker" (diploma, 2012), III Moscow Competition for young violinists and cellists (I prize winner, 2012), VIII Tchaikovsky Competition for young musicians (Diploma of semifinalists, 2014). In 2015 she was invited to participate in II International Bach Festival BWV-2015 by artistic director, pianist Natalia Rubinstein. In October 2018 Katharina took part in “Mit Musik - Miteinander” Chamber Music Project in Kronberg (Germany), organized by Kronberg Academy.

Katharina also had recordings for Radio (Radio Orpheus and WCLV Classical 104.9) and Russian Television (Russia-K Channel). In 2016 her recital with pianist Alexey Kirillov was represented for European Broadcast Union (“Euroradio Represents” format) by Radio Orpheus. The repertoire for this program included works by L.Boccherini, S.Prokofiev, A.Dvorak, B.Martinu, E.Bloch and M.Rostropovich.

The season 2017-2018 included various types of performances in the United States and Europe, including chamber music, solo and playing with orchestra.

Katharina has been selected as a scholarship recipient of the New Names Foundation (2008, 2012), Friends of Rudens Turku Stiftung, Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund (2018) and Musikakademie Liechtenstein (2019). Apart from playing cello Katharina makes transcriptions for cello and cello ensembles.
