“Story of a Mexican Diva” is a musical-theatrical project that narrates stories and life situations about opera singers and migrants and what they go through in their new lives abroad, in specific in Austria, being their host country. Through humurous texts and mexican/latin american songs as well as opera and operetta arias the’ll share one of many stories.

Divas Mexicanas put into question the general perception of what an Opera Diva is supose to be. This project, an original idea from Adriana Hernández Flores, touches the subject of being far away from Mexico and being confronted with everyday challenges in an effort to achieve her goals. Our show aims to give a new understanding of the struggles and life experiences of the Diva, though many real and fictional anecdotes; as well as the positive and joyous moments she has on her way of becoming a Mexican Opera Diva.

This projects involves 5 latin american singers studying and living in Austria. Adriana Hernández, Abigail Coral Almeida, Liliana Arreola, Patricia Trujano and Stephany Peña.


ADRIANA HERNÉNDEZ
Lyric Soprano

Born in Mexico City, she completed her bachelor’s degree studies at the Escuela Superior de Música in the same city with the renowned Mexican soprano Maritza Alemán. Winner of both the ESM awardsand Mexican Music Awards. In 2013 she performed with an Opera Studio in Switzerland under the direction of Peter Kontwitschny. She was a finalist on the Belvedere International Singing Competition. She has also worked with Montserrat Caballé in Spain and with Zlateva Wessela in Austria.

ABIGAIL CORAL ALMEIDA
Lyric Soprano

Born in Merida, Yucatan she started her musical studies in the same city. From 2002 until 2008 she was a member and first soprano of the “Yucatan Opera Studio”. In 2008 she was a winner of a first prize in the “Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition” where she sang at the Carnegie Hall. From 2009 she studies in Vienna at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien, where she completed her Bachelor and Masters Degree in Solo Singing under the guidance of the soprano Sylvia Greenberg. Most recently she has being performing at the St. Stephan’s Cathedral and at the Vienna State Opera.


LILIANA ARREOLA
Colorature Soprano

Born in the city of Chihuahua, she studied piano, dance and singing at the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua and at the Music Conservatory from the same city. She has participated in different national and international festivals in places such as New Mexico and Texas in USA. Since 2011 she studies in the city of Vienna where she recently completed her musical degree at the Prayner Konservatorium with the soprano Victoria Loukianetz.


PATRICIA TRUJANO
Lyric Soprano

Born in Huajuapan de León, she started her musical studies in piano, composition and arranger. She completed her Solo Singing studies in México City with Rosa María Diez at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de México. In 2010 she has a 2nd. Place winner in the “Musica Mexicana de Concerto Singing Competition” and the special price named “Salvador Moreno”. She has performed internationally in Austria, Slovakia and main roles of diferrent operas, such as in Don Pasquale, Romeo and Juliette. She is currently perfecting herself with the soprano Wéssela Zláteva and studying musicology at the State Vienna University.

STEPHANY PEÑA
Mezzosoprano

Born in Miami, United States. She graduated from the Conservatory of Vienna with Professor Uta Schwabe and simultaneously specialized in Operetta with Professor Wolfgang Dosch. Her career has led her to perform in various countries in South America, United States, and Europe giving concerts in Colombia, Chile, Austria, Germany, United States, and Japan which led her to perform in some of the most prestigious concerts halls including the Ehrbarsaal in Vienna as well as the ORF Radiofunkhaus, The Broward Center for the performing arts in Miami, Mozarthaus, Theater Baden, and Theater Bruck an der Leitha. In 2016, she made her debute at the TAG theater in Vienna with the role of Zenobia from Milloecker's Gasparone.

NADEZDA PETERSON BOZOVA
Pianist

Born in Moscow, she begin her musical studies at the G. Neigaus Music School in the same city. In 2003 she was a 1st. prize winner of the Kazakhstan Piano Competition. She was also a 3rd. price winner in the “Beethoven- Klavierwettbewerbs”. She was also a winner of a fond scholarship “Russian Performance Art” in order to continue her studies in the city of Vienna, Austria. In recent years she is performing as an accompanist on different projects as well as singing correpetitor.
