Lilly Zhang-Sowa erhielt bereits im Alter von vier Jahren Klavierunterricht im Musikkindergarten ihrer Geburtsstadt Shanghai - später lernte sie auch Querflöte. Mit 18 Jahren begann sie ihr Klavierstudium am Haydn-Konservatorium bei Mag. Ralf Heiber. Ab 2004 studierte Zhang-Sowa im Konzertfach Klavier-Kammermusik an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien bei Prof. Avedis Kouyoumdjian und Prof. Teresa Leopold, sowie Vokalbegleitung (Lied und Oratorium) bei Prof. David Lutz. Ihre Diplomarbeit „Klangsinn und Achtsamkeit“ wurde vom AV Akademikerverlag in der Reihe Geisteswissenschaften publiziert. Es folgten Meisterkurse wie beispielsweise beim Wiener Musikseminar (Prof. Walter Fleischmann) und Kapellmeisterfortbildung bei Alex Schillings und Toni Scholl.
Bereits 2002 konzertierte sie zum 100. Geburtstag des Komponisten Jenö Takacs. Zhang-Sowa ist Pianistin, ebenso einfühlsame Liedbegleiterin und Kammermusikerin. Sie gab zahlreiche Konzerte im In- und Ausland
und gründete die Kammerensembles „3/V Wien“, „Ensemble DA’S Austria“ und „ViTa Trio“ (Shien-Ta Su, TPO & Wilfried Hedenborg, Wiener Philharmoniker). Ihr Interesse für neue Musik konnte sie unter anderem bei Aufführungen der ÖGZM (Österreichische Gesellschaft für Zeitgenössische Musik) unter Beweis stellen. Zhang-Sowa arbeitet regelmäßig mit Otto Sauter (Trompeten-Solist, „Ten of the Best“ und Gründer der „World Brass Association“) bei Konzerten und Workshops.
Als Komponistin schuf sie Werke wie „Around the World“ für Trompete und Klavier, „Feng Shui Suite“ für Posaune und Klavier (eingespielt mit Wolfgang Strasser, Wiener Philharmoniker) und die Tuba-Fantasie „Vision“ (aufgenommen mit Michael Pircher, Tonkünstler-Orchester).
Anlässlich des 150-jährigen Geburtstages von Oskar Böhme wurde im Label „Thorofon“ die CD „150 OSKAR BÖHME Dresden – St. Petersburg“ mit Helmut Fuchs (Solotrompeter Staatskapelle Dresden) und Lilly Zhang-Sowa veröffentlicht. Im Jahr 2023 wurde die zweite CD mit dem Titel “erstanden“ von beiden Künstlern gemeinsam produziert. Diese CD wurde zusammen mit dem Komponisten Jakob Gruchmann für den Opus Klassik 2023 nominiert.
Derzeit ist Zhang-Sowa am Musikum Salzburg (Seekirchen / Oberndorf) als Klavierpädagogin und Korrepetitorin tätig.

Already at the age of four Lilly Zhang-Sowa received her first piano lessons in the music children‘s garden in her native town Shanghai - later she also learned playing the transverse flute.At the age of eighteen she began her piano studies at the Haydn Conservatory with Mag.Ralf Heiber. From 2004 onward Zhang-Sowa studied the concert discipline piano chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with professor Avedis Kouyoumdjian and professor Teresa Leopold as well as vocal accompaniment (song and oratory) with professor David Lutz. Her diploma thesis Klang und Achtsamkeit (Sensitivity for Sound and Attentiveness) was published by AV Akademikerverlag (arts series). Master classes such as the one at the Wiener Musikseminar with professor Walter Fleischmann and further training in conducting brass music bands with Alex Schillings and Toni Scholl followed.
As early as 2002 she played in concert in honor of the 110th birthday of the composer Jenö Takacs. Zhang-Sowa is a pianist as well as an empathetic song accompanist and chamber musician. She gave numerous concerts at home and abroad.
She founded the chamber music ensembles 3/V Wien, the Ensemble DA‘S Austria and ViTa Trio (Shien-Ta Su, TPO & Wilfried Hedenborg, Vienna Philharmonic). Among other things she succeeded in proving her interest in contemporary music in performances of ÖGZM (Austrian Society for Contemporary Music). Zhang-Sowa regularly works with Otto Sauter (trumpet soloist, Ten of the Best and founder of the World Brass Association) in concerts and workshops.
As a composer she created works such as Around the World for trumpet and piano. Feng Shui Suite for trombone and piano (recorded with Wolfgang Strasser, Vienna Philharmonic), and the tuba fantasy Vision (recorded with Michael Pircher, Tonkünstler Orchester).
On the occasion of Oskar Böhme‘s 100th birthday Zhang-Sowa together with Helmut Fuchs (solo trumpeter with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden) published the CD 150 Years Oskar Böhme, Dresden - St. Petersburg. In 2023 these two artists produced their second CD with the title Erstanden (Resurrected). This CD was nominated for the Opus Klassik 2023 together with the composer Jakob Gruchmann.
At present Zhang-Sowa works as piano teacher and accompanist at the Musikum Salzburg.
