Biography/Education

Born June 12 1963; Grew up in Thailand, Uganda and Germany. Started playing the flute at seventeen and ended up studying both: Jazz at the Hilversum Conservatory as well as classical/contemporary music at the Amsterdam ‘School of Arts’. Private tuition in the US (NYC & LA) and student of Indian Bansuri flute at Codarts, Rotterdam.

Was featured on compilation CD’s, and rated no’s. 1 – 10 at play charts of radio stations all over the globe. As leader recorded 16 CD’s a.o. in Cuba, Senegal, Turkey released by Dutch, Turkish, German, French and US Record Companies. Holland and Turkey. Performs on more than 40 CD’s.

Raised in Thailand, Uganda and Germany Marks appetite for musical adventures takes him all over the globe ever since. A unique voice in an astounding range of musical contexts, exploring and redefining divergent traditions. Acclaimed as much for his artistic vision, restless creativity as for his virtuosity as a player.

Constantly working on and searching for new collaborations and recordings, resulting in an enormous broad output. Mark combines the virility of jazz with the refinement of classical music. He builds an bridge between jazz with contemporary music, often crossing borders with other music cultures of the world.

Subject of many international publications, prize-winner, nominated for the Edison and Beyond Magazine prize. Released 16 CD's on German, Dutch, Turkish, French and US labels recorded a.o. in in Senegal, Turkey, Cuba. As soloist featured on more than 40 CD releases.

Mark worked/recorded with a huge cast of artists over the last two decades, a reference as to what new grounds jazz music is heading now.
