Mia Ćojbašić Sep 18, 2013

Mia Ćojbašić (Pula, 11.04.1987) is one of the most prominent young classical accordion artists in Croatia. She started her formal musical training in her hometown, Pula, in the Music School of Ivan Matetić -Ronjgov. Her talent has been recognized very early when she has been advised to change from the traditional accordion for the classical free-bass accordion. Upon completion of her high-school studies in Pula, Mia has enrolled at the well-known Faculty of Philology and Arts in Kragujevac (Serbia), where she got the chance to study with the renowned teacher, prof. Vojin Vasović. Following the graduation, taking into account her very successful studies, she was chosen to work as an assistant of the classical accordion department of the FILUM university.
Over the years, she has been awarded at numerous national and international competitions. Highlights from recent years: Mia has received first prize at the international accordion competition The World of Accordion which was held in Castelfidardo (Italy, July 2012). Later same year, she was chosen as one of the eight finalists and got a recital at the renowned multiinstrumental international music competition "Ferdo Livadic" in Samobor (Croatia). She will perform there in October, 2013. As a performer, she had many fine performances and recitals in Croatia. Consenquently, she was invited to held the concerts abroad. Except as a soloist, she distinguished herself as a member of various chamber ensembles with whom she also gave concerts and has won many first prizes at a national and international level. Mia is currently a member of the chamber group NotaMi. It is a duo consisting of two accordions (Ivan Sverko and Mia Cojbasic) with whom Mia got a remarkable opportunity to be among the first classical accordionist who ever got the chance to perform in the Great Hall of the Helsinki Music Centre (the main Finnish concert venue, home of the Helsinki Symphony orchestra). Moreover, NotaMi duo performed in some of the finest Croatian concert stages, namely the famous Roman Amphitheatre in Pula as well as in the Atrium Klovićevi Dvori in Zagreb, where NotaMi got invited to perform by the Concert Management Zagreb. In addition to the lessons she had with her regular teachers, she has participated in various international seminars and masterclasses of classical music where she was studying with some of the world's most eminent pedagogues and soloists. Currently she is a Master's degree student at the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki, Finland), where she is studying with the renowned accordion soloist and teacher Mika Väyrynen.
