About Ondrej Vesely

Classical

ONDREJ VESELY(classical guitarist, arranger) devotes all his efforts almost solely to either participating in the Slovak music contemporary movement or collaboration with his colleagues in chamber music and interdisciplinary artistic projects.

Vesely performed as soloist with The Slovak State Philharmonic Košice and Solamente Naturali ensemble with whom he gave world premieres of two guitar concertos written and dedicated to him by Slovak composers Oľga Kroupová (Eo Ipso – Concerto for guitar and symphonic orchestra, in 2017) and Miro Bázlik (Concerto Grosso, in 2015). The festivals and venues where Vesely performed are contemporary music festival Melos-Éthos (Slovakia), Niccolò Paganini Guitar Festival (Italy), Comeniusdag (The Netherland), Pohoda festival, International PostmutArt fest, Music at Fulla Gallery, Chamber music festival Artis or Nuit Blanche (Slovakia). He also performs regularly in the Switzerland and Czech Republic with his chamber music and interdisciplinary art projects.

Among composers who dedicated their compositions to Vesely are Oľga Kroupová (Germany), Joseph Kolkovich (Los Angeles), Marc Yeats (United Kingdom), Angelo Gilardino (Italy), Nuno Figueiredo (Portugal), and from Slovakia Jana Kmiťová, Peter Machajdík, Víťazoslav Kubička, Lenka Novosedlíková, Alexander Döme, Daniel Remeň and Jakub Laco.

Vesely studied classical guitar performance with such artists as Carlo Marchione (Conservatorium Maastricht/The Netherland), Martin Krajco and Jozef Zsapka (Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava/Slovakia), Giampaolo Bandini (Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali Luigi Boccherini in Lucca/Italy) and Peter Remenik (Conservatorium of Music in Žilina/Slovakia). His interest in the theoretical background of music also led him into studying music aesthetics and semiotics at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra under the tutelage of Julo Fujak, where he aspires for Ph.D. within these fields of humanitarian sciences. However, the inexhaustible influence and inspiration come from his friends-composers or chamber music colleagues with whom he is unveiling the world of contemporary music-art

Compositions and arrangements of Ondrej seamlessly blend traditional and current musical trends, in a well-balanced and sophisticated way. His works had been already played in Europe, Asia or the USA by artists like Yo-Yo Ma, Sergio & Odair Assad, David Russel, Palomar ensemble and gained reviews in renowned American newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune, Las Vegas Review-Journal, and Indystar.com. The Vesely´s arrangement of a composition by Clarice Assad entitled “The Last Song” was recorded by Yo-Yo Ma on cello, guitarists Sergio and Odair Assad and pianist Kathryn Stott (Released on by SONY on the live EP Viva Brazil).

His arrangements and compositions are published by Virtual artist collective (USA) or Slovak music Bridge (Slovakia).
