Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Philip started playing the violin at age 5. 
In 2005 Philip won the senior prize in the NSW Secondary Schools Concerto competition and was a finalist in the National Youth Concerto Competition. Philip was the winner of the 2006 Nelson Meers Foundation Outstanding Instrumentalist Scholarship for instrumentalists aged 16-25.
A CHAOS (Conservatorium High Association of Old Students) Special Purpose Grant in 2006 enabled Philip to visit London where he had lessons with Berent Korfker at the Royal College of Music and Professor Igor Petrushevski at the Royal Academy of Music. 
Philip was awarded a full tuition scholarship to the RAM with Professor Igor Petrushevski in 2007.  Since then he has graduated with Class I Honours from the RAM and had successes in International Competitions including 3rd Prizes at the Canetti and Khachaturian International Violin Competitions and 2nd plus special prizes in the Osaka International Music Competition. 
He has performed in concerts in Britain, America, Japan, Armenia and Australia.  Philip is now studying for a Masters of Music Performance at the Zurich Hochschule der Kunst under the renowned Professor Zakhar Bron.
