Russian-American concert guitarist Piotr Pakhomkin has been awarded top prizes at many prestigious guitar competitions, including 1st place at the 5th International Culiacan Guitar Competition (Mexico), 2nd place at the Montreal International Guitar Competition (Canada), as well as 1st place at the Great Lakes Guitar Competition (USA). Recently, a string of solo engagements with the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra featuring concertos of Rodrigo and Vivaldi impelled critics to recognize a great young artist. The Baltimore Sun said, “Pakhomkin’s formidable talents are uniquely suited to Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, making us want to hear it again.”
Mr. Pakhomkin’s trademark flawless delivery coupled with a naturally intuitive musical approach has thrilled audiences in venues such as the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and the Dweck Center of Contemporary Culture in New York. Recently, he was invited by the Guitar Association of Panama to perform recitals at Panama City’s historic National Theater and lead several master classes as part of the nation’s VIII International Guitar Festival. Upcoming engagements include performances of the Vivaldi Concerto with the McLean Orchestra and a solo recital for the 25th Anniversary of the Baltimore Guitar Society.
Pakhomkin received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, in the studio of Maestro Manuel Barrueco. He exclusively plays a 2010 custom cedar-top guitar by Ross Gutmeier.Additional Reviews “[Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez] was performed flawlessly and with emotion.”

-Washington Guitar Society, 2005“Pakhomkin performed a Scarlatti Sonata, Mertz Fantaisie Hongroise Op. 65, and Villa-Lobos Etude 7, with admirable technical accuracy and a warm, engaging sound.” -Victoria Guitar Society (Canada) 2011
