Ramon Vázquez Martirena, bassist, educator, composer, recording artist, arranger, and producer, was born in the Cuban province of Matanzas. He has worked with a great number of latin, pop, jazz, and classical artists in and out of Puerto Rico enabling him to become one of the most sought-after bassist in the local industry. He’s had the gratifying opportunity to work with some of the best known performers of popular music, such as, Olga Tañon, Enrique Iglesias, Plácido Domingo, Cristian Castro, Ismael Miranda, Jerry Rivera, Lissette, Lucecita Benitez, Danny Rivera, Andy Montañez, and many more. Vazquez also has worked with the Costa Rica National Symphony Orchestra, Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, and the San Juan Pop Orchestra. He has also participated in dozens of recordings, including some Grammy Award–winning albums.

He’s also has played with the best names in jazz and Latin jazz, including Chick Corea, Justo Almario, Steve Khan, Arturo Sandoval, Hilton Ruiz, Paquito D’Rivera, Giovanni Hidalgo, Richie Flores, Dave Samuels, Alex Acuña, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, David Sanchez, Nestor Torres, Steve Khan, Dave Valentin, Marco Pignataro, Richie Flores, Miguel Zenón, among others.

Since 2010 Ramón is the musical director for the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, Vice President of FEDUJAZZ, foundation where the focus is music education in rural communities. Also he has worked for many educational programs in different schools and colleges as the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, Universidad Interamericana of Puerto Rico, Berklee College of Music, among others….as an advisor, lecturer and/or professor.

Actually Ramón is working in a TV show “Que es lo que Hay” conducting interviews with several musicians and artist. Also he is working on a world premiere of the first Electric Bass Concerto for Symphony Orchestra and Six String Electric Bass to be presented with the Sishuan Philarmonic Orchestra on April 10th 2015. He is also involved in the production of a TV music Special with Raúl Carbonell for PuertoRico TV WIPR, and finishing his master degree Thesis: El Artista Cómo Ente Motivador en la Educación Musical”, and will release soon a New CD: Tríos, with some of the most renowned Latin Musicians that have worked with Ramón”.
