About Ricardo Horta

Crossover Jazz Classical

Ricardo Horta was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He studied with José Lucena Vaz at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1993. After giving a concert at the Palacio das Artes in 1994 he was voted Guitarist of the Year by the newspaper Hoje em Dia. From 1997 to 1999 he was a guest professor at the same university. In 1998 he created, organized and presented the “First National Guitar Competition Jose Lucena Vaz”, won by Alieksey Vianna. At the same time, he attended master classes led by famous guitarists such as Konrad Ragossnig (Austria), Eliot Fisk (USA) and Fabio Zanon (Brazil).

Ricardo Horta has given concerts all over Brazil and has recorded programs for radio and television. Since 2001 he has lived in Vienna, where he presents concerts and participates in many of the most important events, such as the famous Wiener Festwochen and the Lange Nacht der Musik, promoted by the Austrian television broadcaster, ORF. From October 2003 to January 2006 he studied at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, where he earned a Master of Arts degree — with a dissertation on Mauro Giulianis “Le Rossiniane”. He has been a teacher at the Volkshochschule der Wiener Urania since 2002.

His CD, “Resonanzen”, with works by Villa-Lobos, Garoto and Antonio Carlos Jobim, was released in 2007 and presented in concert as a part of the “Viaggio Musicale” concert series at the theater of the Wiener Urania. He has also given concerts as guitarist and composer, and has composed numerous arrangements for a variety of musical programs, including solo recitals and concerts with string quartet and piano.
