Richard Curran Aug 20, 2013

Richard graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Hons.) degree from the University of Edinburgh in the late nineties where along with analysis and aesthetics he studied composition under Nigel Osborne and orchestration under the late Edward Harper. Since then he has undertaken key musical leadership positions in some of the finest international schools in the world, where he has composed and arranged works for school ensembles, Royal and VIP visits as well as professionals and amateurs in the community. Attracting internationally acclaimed performers such as Nicola Benedetti MBE and Martin Taylor MBE to coach and nurture the next generation of musicians he believes that educational projects are key to stimulating and, in turn, unlocking creativity in children.
His compositions and arrangements are crafted and edited so as to make them accessible to musicians of all abilities. In addition to his own musical stimuli Richard enjoys collaborating with Writers and Artists whose ideas often require more abstract form and unconventional techniques, always providing a welcome challenge. With interests in Jazz, Film scoring, Commercial works coupled with pieces for small and large ensemble, why not contact him to commission something? Richard is currently writing a trio which will be performed by Dr John Hixson (Clarinet), Vladimir Ashkenazy and a rather talented young cellist from the Toho Music School in Tokyo. The composition will have its Première in June 2014 in Japan.
