About Samuel Marques


Clarinetist Samuel Brandão Marques began his studies at the age of five with Nelson Aguiar (Aveiro Music Conservatory) and continued his studies with António Saiote (Music and Performing Arts College – Porto), before studying under Stanley Drucker, Pascual Martínez-Forteza and Dennis Smylie at New York University’s Steinhardt School. At NYU he obtained a Masters degree in Instrumental Performance, an Advanced Certificate in Music Education, and was also an Adjunct Instructor.

Mr. Marques was awarded in several clarinet and chamber music competitions in Portugal, Spain and the US.

In 2013, Mr. Marques was selected to the National Repertory Orchestra (Colorado), the Castleton Festival Orchestra, the World Peace Orchestra, and the New York Youth Symphony. In 2014, Mr. Marques was selected to the Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance (New York, NY) and to the Atlantic Music Festival (Waterville, ME), being offered a Resident Artist Fellowship. During the same year, he had the opportunity to play with the internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and was selected as the winner of the II Iberoamerican Young Artists Competition.

In 2015, Mr. Marques was selected to go on a Portuguese tour with the Gulbenkian Orchestra Seminar, toured Italy with the Virtuoso Soloists of New York, group of which he is a founding member, toured Portugal with Orchestra XXI and was selected to the Portuguese Youth Orchestra. In 2016 he was selected to the Remix Ensemble Summer Academy and gave a clarinet masterclass at the 1st Bendada Music Fest, in Portugal.

Mr. Marques regularly collaborates with Portugal’s Gulbenkian Orchestra and Atlantic Coast Orchestra, and is on the Clarinet faculty at Jobra’s Music Conservatory, Albergaria Club’s Music Academy, E. T. – Talent School (Lisbon), Banda Vaguense’s Music School and Banda de Música de Loureiro’s Music School.
