Sanjoy Banerjee was born in a musical family. Sanjoy, from his very tender age of five years started taking lessons from Lt. Shri Ajit Ghosh, who is a disciple of Lt. Ustad Karamatullaha Khan. At the age of thirteen Sanjoy came under the tutelage of the great tabla artist, Pandit Debendra Kanti Chakraborty, who is a disciple of Lt. Pandit Kanai Dutta and Padmabhushan Lt. Pandit Gnan Prakash Ghosh.
Sanjoy was awarded the prestigious “Taal Ratna” by Bhatkhande Music and Musicology, (M.P) in 1995. He is a winner of Dover Lane Music competition in 1995. Sanjoy is a National Scholar, By Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.
Sanjoy is a one of the potential Tabla players of this generation. He is intricate the style over the tradition idiom of table playing reflects the flavor of Kanai Dutta’s music. At the same time Sanjoy has great improvising skill and has accompanied many distinguished musicians of today. He is also a virtuoso solo table player. Sanjoy has already made quite number of concert, prestigious music festivals and lecture demonstration with renowned artistes in India and Europe.
